My bike on a city bus in Marrakesh. Even though the bus was packed and I was willing to wait the bus driver was very helpful in offering a special place to stow my bike and fit me on board. Nice! |

| Last year I read Thom Hartman's book, "The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight", correlating the use of fossil fuels (ancient sunlight) to population growth. The first read of this journey, "The Devil's Cup", by Stewart Lee Allen. He correlates human motivation to the discovery of coffee; so did coffee stimulate the search, discovery and processing of fossil fuels. The earliest coffee drinkers were Middle Eastern inhabitants. The tea drinkers of India were less productive slower moving and mellow. While Western Europe consumed on a daily average more alcohol per person than what is consumed at an average Superbowl party or a high school kegger, or a college frat party. Leading to disease, memory loss and intense slothfulness. As coffee moved to India then Europe coffee houses became the foundation of the most profitable businesses leading to much greater human progress. What's more, there is a theory that poor coffee quality has been attributed to more violent societies while quality coffee production and consumption has been attributed to a calmer more tranquil society yet productive and focused toward a common good |
